How Yoink works
Yoink is a directory of free stuff. It gathers listings for things people are giving away — from the Yoink community and from public listings on other platforms — and shows you what’s nearby.
- Community listings are posted by Yoink users; you message them in the app to arrange a pickup.
- Listings from other platforms are always attributed, and tapping through takes you to the original post to claim the item there.
- Everything is free. Nobody on Yoink should ever ask you for money, a deposit, a delivery fee or payment details. If someone does, it’s a scam — don’t pay, and report it.
Common questions
Why does tapping a listing send me to another website?
Because that’s where the item actually lives. Yoink doesn’t host other platforms’ listings or handle the exchange — we point you to the original post so you can claim it there, under that platform’s rules.
I’m not seeing anything near me.
- Check that location permission is granted (device Settings → Yoink → Location), or set your area manually in the app.
- Supply varies a lot by area and by day. Pull to refresh, and widen your search radius.
- New areas take a little while to fill up — we refresh areas where people are actively looking.
What are Yoinks?
Yoinks are in-app credits used for actions like reaching out about a listing. You get some when you join, and you earn more by giving things away. Yoinks have no cash value, can’t be bought, sold or transferred, and can’t be redeemed for money — see section 10 of the Terms.
What is “Est. value”?
An automated estimate of what a similar item might sell for second-hand, generated from the listing’s title, description and photo. It’s a rough guide to help you decide whether something is worth the trip — not an appraisal, not a promise, and sometimes wrong.
How do I manage or cancel Yoink Unlimited?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, and you cancel them in your store account — not in the app. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- iPhone / iPad:Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Yoink, or apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions
- Android:Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions
Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends. Full terms: Terms, section 9.
I paid but the app still shows the paywall.
Open Profile and tap Restore purchases, making sure you’re signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you bought with. If that doesn’t unlock it, email hello@yoinkapp.co with your store receipt or order number and we’ll sort it out.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases go through Apple or Google, so refunds are handled by them: Apple · Google Play. If you’re in the EU or UK, your statutory rights still apply. Email us if you’re stuck and we’ll help you through it.
Someone is asking me for money, or behaving badly.
Stop the conversation, don’t pay anything, and report it. Use the report option in the app where available, or email privacy@yoinkapp.co with a screenshot or link. We review reports of objectionable content and abusive users and act within 24 hours, removing content and ejecting users who break our rules. If you feel unsafe or a crime may have happened, contact your local police.
How do I stay safe collecting an item?
- Meet in a public place in daylight where you can.
- Tell someone where you’re going, and bring a friend if you can.
- Inspect the item before you take it.
- Never send money, deposits or payment details — everything on Yoink is free.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, walk away and report it.
Request data deletion
You can delete your account and everything attached to it at any time. Deleting it in the app removes your data from our servers, not just from your phone. If you cannot get into the app, email us instead and we will do it for you.
Email privacy@yoinkapp.co to delete your data
Send us an email with the subject “Delete my account”and include the details below so we can find your account and verify it’s you.
- The email address on your account— ideally send it from that address.
- Your display name in the app.
- If you use a guest account: your display name, roughly when you joined, and the town or area you search in.
- Whether you want a copy of your data before we delete it.
We delete your account record, listings and photos, chats and messages, and your Yoinks ledger within 30 days, and email you to confirm. Backups purge on their normal rotation. Anonymised data that can no longer identify you, and records we are legally required to keep, may remain.
Open Profile → Delete account. This deletes your data from our serversas well as clearing it from your device — you don’t need to email us as well.
Cancel your subscription separatelyin your Apple or Google store settings — deleting your Yoink account doesn’t stop store billing.
You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it — see Your rights in the Privacy Policy.
Listing owners and source platforms
Yoink indexes publicly available free-item listings, always attributes the source, links back to the original post, and never stores the identity of the person who posted it. Indexed listings are deleted automatically within 48–72 hours.
- You posted a listing elsewhere and want it out of Yoink: email privacy@yoinkapp.co with the link. We remove it and block it from being re-indexed.
- You operate a site and don’t want it indexed: email privacy@yoinkapp.co from a domain address and we will stop indexing it — no argument, no delay.
- Copyright or other rights claims: send the URL, a description of the right, and your contact details to the same address.
